Tot School

We started off a new section of Tot School: Stories of the Bible

I read the children a story from the bible each night, but I don’t know how much they take away from it. So to incorporate more biblical teachings we’ll be doing crafts or activities associated with the bible.

To start off, we went with a simple youtube video watching. Kinzey liked shouting out the day we were on and what she was seeing appear.

Bible Story Series: Genesis The Creation of the World

Kinzey loves videos, so I knew this would be an easy way to start.

After the video we played with her puzzles for a bit with color matching. She has so much fun with anything active and where she can yell out what she is wanting. She is often taking over the teaching, once I show or ask her through the first round she starts asking me instead.

After matching the colors up, we got up and placed them on the floor. I would call out a color and she would stand on it. Once she got tired of that, I had her bring me the colors as I called them out.

I’d say it was a success. Hopefully, we’ll do letters and sight words later on this week.

I’m also excited to announce that 1+1+1=1 has new tot school activity sheets, so be prepared to see those start showing up!

Tot School: Counting and Dancing

We practiced our counting and some motor skills last Thursday with cheerios. She kept eating them so our numbers dwindled to to about five in the end.I love her concentration in this first one!

She also loved when I would put them into the shape of letters for her!

Do you know who Dance-A-Lot Robot is? Kinzey loves him, her favorite is the “Dino Dance”, here she’s trying to teach me how (and get me to put down the camera):

First, you stomp, stomp!

Then you chomp, chomp!

We worked on the letter “J”. I found a few free printables online a few weeks ago and just let her color them and tell me what was in each picture. She loved learning that words begin with the letter she was reviewing. “Jar”, “jump”, and “jacket”! She even went searching for her letter J from the Leapfrog Fridge phonics to show me.

Oh, and yes she likes to color with both hands. She tends to favor the left hand most of the time, but we shall see!

Of course Granny and Pappy called toward the end of the lesson, so she started trying to tell them all about the letter J and what words she had learned.

Tot School

We had more time to do Tot School last week. She is loving the flash cards!

I also had the time to use my Daily Schedule to help utilizer the Tot School planning area!

We are going to focus on two words a day (so four words a week or maybe two one review word from the week prior, and one new word).

She has created her own system of finding the letters and putting them together. She loves finding the letters and putting the matching letter on top of the card then putting them together on her cookie sheet.

For the letter of the day we chose Nn. We told her nose starts with n, had her find her nose (simple easy recognition for her) and then find the N.

We also had a number of the day, which was 4. We might focus on this number for a bit, as when Kinzey counts, it’s always “1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.”

She did really well, and earned stickers after each task we did. She loves the special time with me, and getting things right. I can tell when she starts to get frustrated, so that’s when we move on to the next activity.

Tot School with a Two Year Old

Kinzey and I had tons of fun working yesterday! I’ve noticed she really needs to work on her drawing/writing skills so we can start working on writing letters soon.
I pulled out our shape mats and gave her a highlighter and asked her to draw over the shape outline, or stay on the color. She did really well for her first time!

I’m so proud of her recognition skills. Even when we are just driving down the street, she points out shapes to us. Stars at the gas station, diamonds are used everywhere to decorate (especially on bathroom walls), squares in the tiles, she is really good at catching the shape in everything.
IMG00165
She mainly colored the corners of things, but that is still really good for her first time. We did this until she was bored and moved on.

Her dad suggested we start sight words. He’s in luck because I had already bought the flash cards. We used her Leapfrog fridge letters to create the words on the cards. She also had to work on matching uppercase and lowercase words. Her first time when they weren’t already paired.
IMG00167
She loved putting the letters together and repeating the word back to me.
IMG00169
We only did a few words. I think we will focus on one or two sight words a week, (with the help of my new daily schedule), to help her memorize faster. Her daycare says she does awesome with the memory card games there, so I’m glad it’s not just with me!

Kinzey loves her number puzzle from Dollar Tree. She also loves telling you what the numbers are :D

Houston had two soccer games again this past weekend. I forgot the camera for the first one though :(

Kinzey loves watching her bubba at the games and shouting "Hustle" and "Go Jets!"

We went for a great walk

Today we collected acorns and pine cones since the weather was so nice out! Kinzey loved filling her bag up! She was great at finding the acrons that still had a "hat" on them!

Tot School Chalkboard Time

This week we've been playing with all our new toys, but Kinzey is really loving her chalk board. We reviewed shapes, colors, and we're starting to write the letter K.

She loves to tell me what's on the board "pink circle", "yellow square", "triangles, oval, numbers. She didn't really want a "K", she wanted a "pretty K!"

My nephew came and stayed the night, and the toddlers had a blast in the bath tub! Look at those faces!

Sharing is caring!
